A long standing favourite, the humble Cherry Barb originates from Sri Lanka where in habitats of dense forestation. The Cherry barb prefers a cooler aquarium, but not temperate with plenty of vegetation, leaf litter and other decor that can provide shade and hiding spots.
The females appear a little more drab than the males, but it is important to have both as the males will only show their beautiful deep red colouration in order to show off to other males and attract passing females. They are not fussy eaters, so tropical granules and fresh or frozen insect larvae will be more than sufficient for food.
